Meet the team at Welton History Group

The richness of Welton’s history has been recognised and valued for many years. The Welton History Group has a long pedigree, having been in operation in various guises since the late 1980s.

Today, our team of four Welton residents works together to create an interesting and diverse programme of talks, walks and visits throughout the year. We enjoy exploring local and regional history, sharing stories and discoveries that we hope will inform, inspire and entertain. We are endlessly curious about Welton’s past and proud of the huge amount of work that has been done to uncover and preserve the village’s far-reaching history.

If you have not been able to join us at our regular Monday meetings in the village hall, you may not yet know the people behind the group, so here is a brief introduction to each of us. And as mentioned at the last event, we are actively looking for new members to join the team – see the bottom of this email – if you are interested, please get in touch!

Suzanne Edwards – History Group Chair and Co-ordinator

Once I retired from a career in education, I was pleased to be able to have more time to get involved in village life. Just over a year ago I took on organising the History Group, aiming to share local history in ways that engage the community. I organise our annual programme, help guide activities, and enjoy uncovering forgotten stories that bring Welton’s rich heritage to life.

Karen O’Mahoney – Media and Communications

With decades of strategic marketing experience, including 20 years running my own consultancy, I support the History Group’s website and communications. Researching Welton’s past has sparked a passion for local history, revealing the fascinating stories and lives behind the village’s heritage.

Nigel Le Gresley – Treasurer

Professionally qualified in marine electronics, business and law, I served in the Merchant Navy before joining government and later BT. A former Justice of the Peace and county councillor, I now find local and national history far more fascinating than the British Empire studies of my schooldays.

Judi Le Gresley – Hospitality

History has always been a passion of mine. I worked at Liverpool Museum before family and work took us around the UK and abroad. After raising four children and retiring as a school science technician, I continued exploring local history wherever we lived, be it Liverpool, Somerset, Kent, Essex or Welton!

If you see any of us around the village, please do have a chat!

Vacancies – why not join us?

We are current looking for a secretary, a data analyst and a few associate members? Like the sound of any of these? Then please contact Suzanne at weltonhistorygroup@outlook.com.
