Welton Community History Project

The meeting to launch the Welton History Group website on Tuesday May 19th was well received. A voluntary donation hat collected over £40 which will be used to help fund more permanent displays of our shared history, so thank you to all for your generosity.
During the meeting the website was demonstrated, introducing the interactive map, the range of areas we have been researching as well as the online photograph album. Initial analysis of “hits” show a very encouraging level of interest and direct feedback from many in the village has been very positive. If you have not yet accessed the website, why not see for yourself using link: weltonhistorygroup.co.uk
To date we have produced detailed pieces on 11 properties, with at least 11 more to investigate, 5 ‘lost treasures” (buildings now lost or in very changed circumstances) and two public buildings: Welton School and St Martin’s Church.
We are delighted that several people, some but not all local to Welton, have taken an active part in digging out new information and undertaking further research into key questions. I would like to thank all those who have helped get this project underway. The Facebook page Welton (Northamptonshire) Memories has also been an absolute treasure trove of new material, so thank you to all who have contributed.
This is very much a work in progress and with each new discovery changes may need to be made. Sometimes we find out things that require us to rethink earlier findings, so do bear with us. You can feedback your thoughts or findings to us on the website.
